Status report before Summer Breaks

Hello Everyone!
I just wanted to give everybody a heads up before the summer breaks commence.

- The server improvements are almost complete, so get in there and see what we have done for you!

- We have had a great deal of success with server fillers lately, so I urge everyone, when they have a bit of free time and see the server empty, to hook up with a few friends and/or SSQ members and start filling the server!

- A great big influx of new members to SSQ is underway. If you have any Steam friends who you think are made of the stuff we like to see in here, be sure to offer them an invite. (Just be sure to tell SirFur, he is the recruitment officer after all. ;)

- On monday the 29th, I will be going on a five day long vacation. I may do a check-in every now and again, but I will not be playing, and you'll hardly see me often during those five days.

Server status report

Since the Sniper vs. Spy-update there has been a lot of traffic going on at our server - and there still is!

Here's some statistical data, fetched from game-monitor.com:

As you can see, since about roughly a week there have constantly been people on the server, people who actually play! (not those stupid idlers farming weapons) Personally, I think this is amazing, finally it's not quiet anymore and I think Steve feels pretty glad now, because all his effort finally pays off not only for us SSQ members, there are many other people around, keen to play on our server and keen to know more about us Squirrels.

Keep up the good work, I say :)
If you haven't already, add the server to your favourites and check it out from time to time, if you feel like having a round of Team Fortress! ;)

I am afraid I've got bad news: I joined the newest Steam client beta, and since then I have been unable to connect to Steam. I am hoping Steam Support will get their fingers out, but if not, I hope you guys will be able to handle the evening's event yourselves.

Changes to the Forums

Hey guys,

It is a great to see that the forums are starting to liven up again and wonderful to see a whole host of new members registering at the site. Welcome to you all! I will yet again remind you all to urge your friends and perhaps even family to register up here as we intend to establish a long-life community here that is home to all your online social needs!

In consequence, I have decided to make a few changes to the forums - some of which are in progress. Firstly we now have a new forum section - the Chatter Room, which takes place of the General form we had before. I know you guys love to chatter so get on with it in there! In addition, a place for posting your screenshots and photos (like those from Garry's Mod) has been established. Also, if you've ever wanted to share a few video clips or discuss about your favorite TV shows/films then a special place for you has been created.

As many of you may know, a good number of the SSQ members now also play Left 4 Dead. I am sure you guys will agree that it seems appropriate to have a seperate forum section for an excellent game that many of us enjoy playing together, as well as TF2. Further form sections are in consideration, but if there are any suggestions please post in the relevant forum (ironically called Suggestions :]).

I would also like to remind you guys of the 'Nut Marks', 'Nut Files' and the 'Nutters' sections on the website. Nut Marks and Nut Files is a place for people to share their favorite online links, spoof pages, websites and articles, and for sharing useful files/programs (limit is 15Mb so for bigger files - links should be used instead). Please feel free to enter new entries at your leisure.

The Nutters section was previously closed, but now has been opened up for all members to access. This is where you are able to post a short profile about yourselves and say a few things. This is under an approval-of-entry system to ensure that a member does not post personal details by accident. An example of one such is available by ssq | Cross.

It seems to be getting too quiet around ssq and I think the time has come to change this. We need to ruffle things up a bit and get some action into the group again. Myself and the rest of the admins are busy with a few new projects and hopefully we will be able to kick start our way into the new year with a BIG Cheer!

7v7 Friendly vs d:R^ - Results

So we just finished our 2nd Friendly War ever against d:R^ and I'm not gonna spread the news in a roundabout way:

We lost with one tiny wee cap-point.

CTF_Turbine: I have to admit, I never played this map properly before today. And I think a few others were new to it as well. It was hard to break the enemy's defense, they were very well organized, we had problems to defend our intel, just because we had no real tactic on this map. Eventually ssq | Galvatron made it through and saved us one cap in the first round.

PL_Goldrush: We were on defense for the first round and due to lack of experience and formost because of connection issues we honestly got steamrolled - the enemies were unstoppable and we had no chance - but the main reason was, that we lost 2 people and were playing 5 vs 7. It was the same as soon as we were on offense, we didn't even make it to the first checkpoint, but I have to point out, that it was really close ;)

This sounds pretty, pretty devastating, but don't hang your head in shame, fellow squirrels, this is a result we can learn from. We had major issues getting together enough people as the war was about to start plus nearly everyone was experiencing connection issues resulting in a lack of players during the game, so that it was impossible to properly play anymore. We surely have potential, we have some very very good players and I think we can do way better next time! We just need some practise, especially on maps, we usually don't play. We have to refine our teamplay and our communication, so we'll be ready for the next match up! :)

Nonetheless I thank everyone who participated and I hope we have better luck with our next match! :)

Friendly v d:R^

During our spontaneous friendly 4v4 Arena match against d:R^ yesterday evening we played on Arena_Well and Arena_Lumbaryard. The atmosphere was good and spirits were high! However, in the first game on Well we got stamped on by d:R^ and ended up losing quite badly 7:15.

My head had dipped a bit - but whahay, next game we bounced back to show some of that fighting spirit we squirrels all have and showed them what we're really about! The second game started really well, and some excellent teamwork from fraggdya and ssq | Simeon won us the day. We won the second map 10:4, and what a good feeling that was! :) In the end we came out not doing too badly and getting ourselves a DRAW :).

We play them again on Sunday in official wireplay league maps, so I have a feeling we'll have to work harder next time to make sure we at least equal our performance in this, our first successful friendly.

First Friendlies: 9M & d:R^

We had our first Clan Friendly against 9M last week - Thursday August 17th, 2008 - but, after some of us had lag problems we decided to postpone the match till when we could rearrange it on ssq | TrueDeviL [RK]'s one. Hopefully, this will be played within the next week or so. Meanwhile, d:R^ invited us to play against them in a 7v7 match on two maps, to which we accepted. This game is scheduled for Sunday 19.30 GMT start. Thank You to both clans for playing against us.

However, they were so eager to play us we managed to have a spontaneous friendly 4v4 Arena match against them yesterday evening. It was enormous fun and we managed to get a few frags for ourselves! We played on Arena_Well and Arena_Lumbaryard, and we came out not doing too badly and getting ourselves a DRAW :).
